Our Mission
The mission of Saso High School Prep is to provide exceptional preparation for the HSPT® that empowers students to score as high as possible on the test, so that they have the best chance of acceptance into a Catholic high school.
Our Method
We believe that repetition is the mother of learning. Students retain what they learn in our classes because we are building fundamental skills through repetition rather than cramming. Our program helps students create a solid foundation of math & English skills that will help them score higher on the HSPT® and will reinforce what they are learning in school.
Our Philosophy
We believe every child has the ability to succeed. We strive to create an atmosphere that is encouraging and enthusiastic that focuses on individual improvement and progress. We build self-confidence in students by showing them that effort equals improvement.
Our Instructors
Steve Saso
Hi, I am Steve Saso, the founder of Saso High School Prep. I have more than 36 years’ experience teaching in Catholic high schools. I have been teaching HSPT® prep classes since 1996.
After graduating from Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, I began my teaching career at Jesuit High in Sacramento where I taught Algebra I and Algebra II. I then moved on to become Department Head of Religious Studies at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland. Moving to San Luis Obispo, I helped re-open Mission College Prep where I served as Assistant Principal and Director of Admissions. Later, I returned to my alma mater and taught at Bellarmine for more than two decades.
While I was at Bellarmine, I began preparing students for the HSPT®. The program grew over the years, and now Saso High School Prep serves hundreds of students each year. Teaching has been my life’s passion, and I get great joy and satisfaction from helping young people experience learning breakthroughs and academic success.
Brian Saso
Hi, I’m Brian Saso. If you give us a call, I’m the one you’ll be speaking with!
As an eighth grader in 1998, I took my father Steve’s HSPT® prep class, and I have been helping him in the business ever since.
I have been teaching HSPT® prep classes for over a decade, and I am the main author of our class curriculum.
I developed our sister-site www.SasoPrepOnline.com where students take our online HSPT® Assessment and Mock Exam. I also created a supplemental self-study HSPT® prep course found there as well.
I love motivating students to do their best, and I am passionate about helping them succeed on the High School Placement Test. My goal is to inspire our students to become lifelong learners who understand the importance of hard work, determination, and a positive mental attitude.
I am married to April Saso, and we just had our first baby.

I’m from Brazil and I’m Brian’s wife. I have a bachelor’s degree in education and I joined the Saso team in 2016.
I’m always thinking about how to add more fun to our classes. You won’t be disappointed! This prep course is not your normal (boring) style of education! Brian and Steve are super energetic and extremely knowledgeable.
You will find me answering student questions during our classes, and behind the scenes, I’m passionate about marketing. Brian calls me the creative director, but you can call me Mrs. Saso.
